Even though we practice certified ecological viticulture, we still use significant amounts of fossil fuels every day. Our tractors, for example, are often in continuous operation for days burning diesel fuel in the process. As long as there is no alternative, Balthasar Ress offsets the resulting CO² by making compensation payments to certified projects. The projects supported are demonstrably suitable for binding CO² elsewhere or preventing the formation of CO² that would have arisen elsewhere if no special measures had been taken.
The CO² compensation is not only carried out for the agricultural sector, but also for all other vehicles of the wine estate, in particular delivery vehicles, company vehicles of the employees and also the vehicles of the management (including the private vehicles of the owners), provided that these are refueled with the fleet cards issued for this purpose at the participating gas station networks (in practice, this covers at least 90% of all refueling transactions).
