The family history is based on Balthasar Ress' desire to be a host. In 1870, he founded the Guesthouse Ress in Hattenheim, laying the foundation not only for a long gastronomic tradition and hospitality in the Rheingau, but also for what would later become the Balthasar Ress VDP wine estate. 140 years later, Christian Ress took over responsibility for the wine estate, which during his leadership became the largest organic wine estate in Hessen in 2019. To date, the wine estate is wholly owned by the family, with Stefan and Christian Ress as the fourth and fifth generations of owners. We are one of the few Rheingau wineries that own vineyards in top locations throughout the Rheingau from Assmannshausen to Hattenheim. Vineyards with extremely high potential for fine wines. We work organically and follow Balthasar's original maxim >>And Pure Be The Wine!<<. This is good for the taste, for the vine, for the soil, for the flora and fauna and for the people - especially for the people who work for us. We act responsibly towards the environment and society in order to pass on a sustainable winery to future generations.
