Our Rheingau top sites

Our Rheingau top vineyards

Have you ever wondered what is the root of fine wines...?

The Rheingau is one of the most important wine regions in the world, because its exceptional soils hold enormous potential for great wines. Riesling, which we have specialized in for decades, feels particularly at home here in the Rheingau. From each of our 14 classified sites, which stretch from Hattenheim to Assmannshausen, we bring out the distinctive typicity of the region. Two of our top sites are presented below.

Probably the most spectacular Rheingau vineyard is our Rüdesheim Berg Schlossberg VDP.GROSSE LAGE®. Its 70 percent slope does not exactly make the predominantly manual work in the vineyard easy. However, it ensures that our vines can make the most of the intense sunlight. The slate and Taunus quartzite soils are not uninvolved in this process. During the day, their dark surface absorbs and stores the heat and releases it back to the vines at night. The small temperature difference between day and night results in optimal ripening of the berries. And lo and behold, the painstaking cultivation by classical winemaking craftsmanship does not go unnoticed, as our wines from the Rüdesheimer Schlossberg regularly achieve high ratings in competitions.

Another interesting steep slope near the Binger Loch is our Rüdesheim Berg Rottland VDP.GROSSE LAGE®. The name is derived from the words reuten, rotten or roden. At that time they described the conversion of natural areas into agricultural land, in this case the cultivation of vines. The soil in Berg Rottland, which is multi-layered due to the upheaval, is composed of proportions of slate, quartzite, gravel and loess.

If you ever can't decide between our VDP.GROSSE LAGEN®, there is a solution without having to compromise. Have you ever tried our VDP.ORTSWEINE? They combine our different Rheingau top vineyards. A great alternative if you want to discover the common taste denominator of our Rheingau origin.
