Harvest report Rheingau 2020

The 2020 wine year was characterized by another hot, dry summer. Grape development was around 16 days ahead of the 30-year average, with the second earliest bloom since records began. The grape harvest therefore began very early this year. Already on August 31, we brought the must for our Rosé Gutswein into the cellar. In the following days, the Pinot Noir was harvested.

On September 10, the harvest of the Rieslings started with the musts for our Gutssekte. Rüdesheimer and Hattenheimer sites were used for this purpose. The main harvest for our Rieslings began on September 21. From this point on, we harvested gorgeous grapes that were physiologically completely ripe. The weather conditions in the fall were very good for the ripening development of the grapes, despite the recurring rain. Moderate temperatures and very cool nights ensured ideal aroma development and prevented possible rot.

All in all, the autumn was relaxed and we are already looking forward to another great vintage of fine, fruity Rieslings. Our young wines are currently still fermenting, but already show the necessary potential for a great vintage. We were able to win excellent qualities up to Auslese from the VDP.GROSSEN LAGEN Nussbrunnen and Rottland. Our young wines will mature in the barrels until next year (approx. February) and remain on the full lees. This way we give them enough time to develop and reach their full potential. We sincerely thank our entire production team for an outstanding 2020 vintage!
