Christian Ress was a schoolboy at the Waldbach Elementary School in Hattenheim from 1980-1984 and Mrs. Konzen was his class teacher for 4 years. He has the best memories of his school days. Therefore it was a matter of importance for him to support a current project of the school through the sponsoring association "Groß hilft klein".
On March 30, 2021, he handed over a donation of € 750 to the Association for the support of the Waldbach Elementary School in Hattenheim, which was received with pleasure by the first chairwoman of the association, Nancy Nüdling. In doing so, he supports the purchase of seating furniture for the schoolyard in order to make it more attractive for the students to spend time outside, which is even more important now under Corona conditions.
The foundation
The foundation of the association "Groß hilft klein" in 1998 goes back to a precarious situation: At that time, the survival of the Hattenheim Waldbach Elementary School was on the line, because the number of children to be enrolled had slipped below the minimum mark of one class size. At that time, the financial situation in the district was not the best and the search was on for "cost-cutting potential". Among other things, the closure of the Waldbach Elementary School in Hattenheim was considered. When this fact became known, the parents of the children concerned joined forces and, together with the citizens of Hattenheim, a campaign was launched to save the Waldbach Elementary School. Posters were painted, demonstrations were held, negotiations were held at the political level, and possible solutions were sought that could ensure the continued existence of the school. After a tough struggle, the school was saved at that time. Since this first rescue operation, the association has had to work again and again for the preservation of the Waldbach Elementary School. With the decision of the district council to preserve and renovate the Waldbach Elementary School, the preservation of the school site has now been successfully secured for the next few years and the long overdue renovation of the school building will be tackled.
